Historical Background
Shah Rukn-e-Alam Shah Rukn-e-Alam, also known as Sheikh Rukn-ud-Din Abul Fateh, was a renowned Sufi saint of the Suhrawardiyya order. Born in 1251 AD, he was a prominent spiritual leader whose teachings and influence extended throughout the region. He was a disciple and grandson of the great Sufi saint Baha-ud-Din Zakariya and played a vital role in spreading the message of Sufism in South Asia.
Construction of the Tomb The tomb was constructed between 1320 and 1324 AD by Ghias-ud-Din Tughlaq, the founder of the Tughlaq dynasty, who initially intended it as his own mausoleum. However, it was later gifted to Shah Rukn-e-Alam’s descendants for the saint’s final resting place. The tomb is an outstanding example of early Islamic architecture in South Asia.
